KANSAS CITY, Mo. —A suburban Kansas City teenager whose body was found earlier this week regained consciousness after she was first assaulted but then was attacked again until she died, her uncle said Wednesday.

Keighley Alyea, 18, of Overland Park was found dead in a farm field in western Missouri on Monday, nearly a week after she had been reported missing. Three men, including a former boyfriend, have been arrested and charged with her murder.

Alyea's uncle, Eddie Frentrop, 42, of Independence, Mo., said authorities told the family his niece's attacker thought she was dead at one point, but that she came to and was attacked again until she died. He did not know how Alyea was attacked...

Police have not released the cause of death or the manner in which she was assaulted.

Three Johnson County men have been arrested and charged in Alyea's death. Dustin Hilt, 18, Joseph Mattox, 21, and Gerald Calbeck, 18, each face charges of first-degree murder, aggravated kidnapping and aggravated robbery. They have not entered pleas, and are being held on $2 million bond.

Frentrop said Alyea, who lived on her own and worked two jobs, had been dating Hilt "off-and-on" for about two years. Zane Todd, lawyer for Hilt, said Wednesday the suspects would likely not enter pleas until November...

The family is planning a funeral service for this weekend.

A day after murder charges were filed against three men in death of 18-year-old Keighley Ann Alyea of Overland Park, her family provided a grim detail.

Alyea’s attackers thought they killed the teen Sept. 30 in Johnson County, according to what police told the family, but she became conscious as they drove to dump her body in rural Cass County.

“They had a choice to do the right thing and they chose to kill her,” said her uncle, Eddie Frentrop. “They could have just dropped her off at the hospital on the steps.”

Johnson County prosecutors declined to provide details on the case, including the cause of her death. On Tuesday, they also filed first-degree murder, aggravated kidnapping and aggravated robbery charges against Dustin B. Hilt, 18, of Shawnee, Gerald S. Calbeck, 18, of Merriam, and Joseph D. Mattox, 21, of Overland Park...

Margo Alyea, the teen’s grandmother, said...Hilt and the victim had dated in the past and each had a tattoo of the other’s name on their bodies. The family is having the Dustin tattoo taken off her body before burial, Alyea said. Her granddaughter had wanted it taken off before her death.


Derek Bohlken, father of 18-year-old Gerald Calbeck, said his son had never been in trouble and hardly knew Alyea. His son started hanging out with Hilt a few weeks ago, he said. “He’s into things like sports, and he goes running,” Bohlken said... And murder?

Keighley Ann Alyea was headed out to visit an old boyfriend who sent an urgent message about 1:30 a.m. the day she disappeared, according to several friends. “She’ll come right over if you tell her something is wrong,” said Alyea’s friend Chris Monslow.

Alyea’s longtime friend Jessika Beebe, who knew that the couple had a volatile history that included abuse, urged her not to go. But Alyea left anyway. Her friends said police told them that Alyea’s last text message was: “I’m here. I’m parked a block away.”

...Alyea had dated Hilt for about two years, but several friends said they broke up after a long history of abuse. “She thought he would change,” Beebe said.

Alyea lived with Beebe’s family for several years. Beebe and others said they watched Hilt display irrational behavior around Alyea. They also saw bruises, which Alyea told them Hilt had inflicted, said Beebe’s brother, 16-year-old Chris Monslow of Kansas City, Kan.

Monslow had been friends with Hilt and Alyea. He said that the couple had used drugs together, but the relationship and her drug use stopped. “They split up and she got clean,” Monslow said.
Although the steady relationship appeared to be over, several friends said Hilt and Alyea had an on-again, off-again romance...

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -- Three Johnson County men have been charged with first-degree murder in the death of an 18-year-old Overland Park Keighley Ann Alyea.

Prosecutors on Tuesday charged 18-year-old Dustin Hilt of Shawnee, 18-year-old Gerald Calbeck of Merriam and 21-year-old Joseph Mattox in the death of Keighley Ann Alyea. Hilt was described as Alyea's ex-boyfriend.

The men are also charged with aggravated kidnapping and aggravated robbery.

Nearby residents in East Lynne told KMBC they were suspicious after seeing a green car travel back and forth on the road on Sept. 30, which is when police believe Alyea was killed.

Alyea disappeared at about midnight Sept. 29. An autopsy was being conducted Tuesday at the Jackson County medical examiner's office in Kansas City, Mo.

The Johnson County district attorney's office said the three suspects have been given court-appointed attorneys.

Keighley Ann Alyea, 18, was last seen at her Overland Park apartment at about midnight on Sept. 29.

Police said Alyea's body was found in a Cass County farm field near East 235th Street and South State Route K Highway at 9:30 p.m. Monday.

Officers later converged on a residence at 64th and Melrose in Shawnee. The house belongs to a relative of a person questioned in the case, Alyea's father told KMBC.

Dustin B. Hilt, 18, of Shawnee were charged with first-degree murder, aggravated kidnapping and aggravated robbery in the case.

On Sunday night, police found Alyea's 1993 green Mazda car in the 6200 block of Marty Street. The car was unoccupied. Investigators said they towed the car so an evidence technician could go over it...

Alyea had been living at the Louisburg Square Apartments at 87th and Grant streets, which is where she was last seen by a friend who was staying with her.

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -- Overland Park police are still searching for an 18-year old Overland Park woman who has been missing for a week.

Keighley Ann Alyea hasn't been seen in a week and police believed she might be with a friend, but that friend did not help in locating her.

Police say they are concerned because Alyea was a past victim of domestic violence in Kansas City, Kan.
Alyea drives a dark green Mazda 626 four-door with a Kansas License plate of 198 BOV.

Police said they are also looking or another teen's car that may be involved, which is a blue 1995 Ford Explorer with the license plate of BEEBE.

The Overland Park Police Department is asking for the public’s help in locating a missing woman who authorities fear may be in danger.

Keighley Ann Alyea, 18, of Overland Park, last was seen at her home about midnight Tuesday. Police described her as 5 feet, 1 inch tall and 113 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. Police do not know what she was wearing when she disappeared.

Investigators have interviewed two young men who police had said previously may have been with Alyea...

Weaver said police were particularly concerned about Alyea’s well-being because she was the victim of domestic violence last week. “That’s certainly a factor, and that she’s been gone so long,” Weaver said...

The missing woman drives a dark green four-door Mazda 626 with a Kansas license plate 198-BOV. Her car also is missing.
