Where is Haleigh Cummings?

The Prairie Chicken
January 3, 2010

It's been a few months since there was any news in Putnam County Florida concerning Haleigh Cummings and her extended family. Leave it to Ron and Misty, though, to kick it up a notch to usher in the New Year.

Misty has reported to authorities that she has been receiving threatening phone calls and it is reported that has had at least one boyfriend since The Ronald.

Ron, in his usual fashion, tried to run a guy off the road (possibly Misty's boyfriend) and then threaten HIM with a gun; a gun Ron swears is locked up at the house.

Haleigh is still missing. Bless her little heart.

Investigators Search Haleigh Cumming's Family Property

Firstcoastnews.com

June 26, 2009

GLEN ST. MARY, Fla. -- Investigators searched the property and a lake of Haleigh Cummings' maternal grandmother in Baker County west of Jacksonville on Friday.

About 40 investigators, including the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office dive team and cadaver dogs, searched a small pond on Marie Griffis' 30-acre property and dug up several areas with a bulldozer, according to a report on the Web site of First Coast News.

The area was searched about a week after 5-year-old Haleigh was reported missing from her home in Putnam County in February. But police told First Coast News that they recently were told the family buries animals on the property, so a new search was ordered.

Police said they have no reason to doubt the family's assertion about animals but want to be thorough. Only animal remains were found on Friday, but the search continues on the property of another relative who lives nearby.

Haliegh's mother, Crystal Sheffield, lives on the property...

Missing 5-year-old Haleigh Cummings' father loses his job

By Dana Treen
The Florida Times-Union (MCT)
April 16, 2009

After waiting two months to hear from the father of still missing 5-year-old Putnam County kindergartner Haleigh Cummings, the Palatka plant where he worked has fired him for abandoning the job, the company said.

Ronald Cummings' employment was a factor in his being granted custody of his daughter and son in 2005 because he was in a better position to pay for health insurance. Following Haleigh's disappearance, the long estranged mother of the children has said she wants custody of their son, 4-year-old Ronald Cummings Jr. Why hasn't Crystal's attorney revised the petition to include Haleigh, on the small chance she is found alive?

Tony McCauley, director of human resources for PDM Bridge, said Cummings' bosses never heard from him following Haleigh's disappearance Feb. 10. McCauley said Cummings could have asked for a leave of absence.

"That never happened," he said from company headquarters in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. "Without that happening, at some point they filled his position. He was released." Cummings operated a rolling crane at the plant north of Palatka. He was not a longtime employee. "We still have a great deal of sympathy for Mr. Cummings and his family and certainly hope for the best," McCauley said.
.
Haleigh was reported missing just as Cummings was arriving home from work about 3 a.m. on Feb. 10 and his girlfriend said the youngster was gone. The girl has not been found despite an intense search and investigation that is still continuing.
.
Earlier McCauley said the company was willing to hold the job open but wouldn't discuss if it was doing anything else to assist the family. But Wednesday he said a decision had to be made that was consistent and fair regarding other employees.
.
This week PDM asked Putnam County deputies to monitor shift changes at the plant that employs about 120 people and manufactures structural sections for steel bridges. McCauley would not say if the company had a specific reason for the request but only that it is done in some cases. "It's just a judgment call you make from employee to employee based on what might happen," he said.
.
Lt. Johnny Greenwood of the Sheriff's Office said deputies were stationed at the plant during the two daily shift changes beginning Monday. They wanted to make sure there were no disruptions in case Cummings was upset. Officers did not encounter any either day, Greenwood said.
.
Calls to Palatka attorney Greg Kimball, who is representing Cummings, were not returned Wednesday. Since his daughter's disappearance, Cummings has had access to money donated for family expenses but which can only be released under state rules for such accounts.

Press release issued by attorney of Ronald Cummings
April 16, 2009

In response to today's story in the Florida Times-Union, Greg Kimball, the attorney representing the father of Haleigh Cummings, Ronald Cummings, issued the following press release:
.
April 16, 2009
.
This press release is in response to the Florida Times-Union article of today's date. Ronald Cummings in the last two months has had to deal not only with the disappearance of his daughter Haleigh, but also false muckraking allegations by attorney Kim Picazio, representing Crystal Sheffield, and Picazio's personal friend "Cobra."

From the time of Haleigh's disappearance, Ronald Cummings was told that his employer was holding his job open. He was told by his employer that he could start back to work on Monday, April 6, 2009. Ronald agreed to this date and was prepared to go into work when he was told on Friday, April 3, 2009 that the offer to return to work was being withdrawn for "abandoning his job."
.
Ronald expressed his displeasure with the company for going back on its word, but at no time threatened anyone. This office has referred Ronald to a Daytona Beach law firm that handles labor and employment law.
.
It should be noted that Crystal Sheffield is currently thousands of dollars in arrears for child support. She has not been gainfully employed in approximately two years. When Crystal and Ronald lived together it was mainly Ronald's grandmother that cared for their children since Crystal was usually watching TV.
.
This office anticipates providing Department of Children and Families (DCF) with new information on a confidential basis in the near future.
.
It is ironic that the last Florida Times Union article by Dana Treen on April 5, 2009 bemoaned that the squabbles and personal differences of Haleigh's parents have distracted from the search for Haleigh.
.
The article blamed both sides equally. The article was rebutted in a press release from this office (which is being re-printed and follows this release). Now Dana Treen wants to wade into personal matters on the side of Crystal Sheffield. Which is it, Mr. Treen? (Signed) Greg Kimball
.
April 6, 2009
.
This press release is in response to the Sunday, April 5, 2009 Florida Times Union article on the Haleigh Cummings case. The headline of the article was "Family Feud Takes Focus off Search for Haleigh."
.
Both Ronald Cummings, the father of Haleigh, and Crystal Sheffield, the mother of Haleigh, were blamed equally. The reporter for the Florida Times Union failed to give a proper perspective on this issue.
.
A few facts need to be clarified:
.
1. It was Crystal Sheffield who chose to launch a Department of Children and Families (DCF) investigation about Ronald Cummings, as part of preparation for a custody battle over Ronald Cummings, Jr., rather than focus on the search for Haleigh.
.
2. Crystal Sheffield got attorney Kim Picazio from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida to represent her. Attorney Picazio has been on television at every opportunity seeking publicity for herself and about family law issues.
.
3. Attorney Kim Picazio has admitted on television that the so-called investigator William E. Staubs, who refers to himself as "COBRA," is a personal friend. Cobra arrived in Putnam County from Ft. Lauderdale [sic] shortly after Haleigh went missing and has been feeding information to Picazio and some media.
.
4. Ronald Cummings had to obtain legal counsel in self defense of the public allegations by Sheffield-Picazio, and also regarding Sheffield-Picazio allegations to DCF.
.
5. That Kimball & Snider, P.A. only got involved in this case on March 18, 2009, approximately five weeks after Haleigh went missing. Our initial press release (a copy of which follows) of March 19, 2009, in paragraph three (3) stated that Sheffield-Picazio allegations about family law manners were detracting from the search for Haleigh.
.
6. That Kimball & Snider, P.A. got involved in this case because Ronald Cummings, at the urging of a family member, called our Palatka office. Palatka is about five miles from Satsuma where Ronald resided.
.
7. Kimball & Snider, P.A. has responded through press releases to rebut and correct Sheffield-Picazio allegations. We have not appeared on national tv or even given any interviews to local media.
.
8. Kimball & Snider, P.A. has provided information on a confidential basis to DCF and Putnam County Sheriff's Office (PCSO) about this case, and will continue to act responsibly to assist DCF and PCSO.

Ronald Cummings Hires Attorney

March 19, 2009

PALATKA, FL -- The father of Haleigh Cummings has hired an attorney. The Law Office of Kimball & Snider in Palatka says it will represent Ronald Cummings on a pro bono basis.

The personal injury firm says it will help handle the media and Ronald Cummings' interests in matters involving a possible custody fight over his son.

READ: COMPLETE COVERAGE OF SEARCH FOR HALEIGH

Earlier this week, Haleigh's mother's attorney, Kim Picazio, met with investigators with the Department of Children and Families. She handed over information about life inside the Cummings family home that she had collected from family members and friends.

Picazio said she doesn't intend to help Crystal Sheffield file for custody of the children at this time, but she plans to wait until DCF finishes its investigation before filing any legal action for custody.

"The attorney and mother have appeared on national television to make unsubstantiated claims that Ronald Cummings sees as a 'cheap shot' and publicity stunt that detracts from the search for Haleigh," wrote Kimball & Snider in a statement released to the media.

"The mother was previously denied custody in court and allegations of abuse against Ronald were judicially dismissed."

The firm says Cummings is a victim, who "needs and deserves legal advice and assistance in his quest for the safe return of his daughter."

The firm won't represent Misty Croslin Cummings, Ronald's 17-year-old wife. She is the one who told investigators she put Haleigh to bed on the night of February 9. The 5-year-old girl hasn't been seen since.

Though Ronald Cummings stands by her, the firm "has decided it is best to only represent ronald and not Misty, because of their different respective legal positions." No one from the firm is available today to explain what "different respective legal positions" means.

In the statement the firm says it is conducting its own investigation into all "relevant matters" and will speak to the media when it's appropriate.

If you have any information on the case, call Crime Stoppers at 1-888-277-TIPS. You'll remain anonymous. The reward in the search for Haleigh is up to $35,000.

Haleigh Cummings Mother's Attorney Says She Met With DCF

3/17/2009

PUTNAM COUNTY, FL -- Haleigh Cummings' mother's attorney met with case workers with the Department of Children and Families Tuesday.

Attorney Kim Picazio told First Coast News she supplied information she has gathered from people in Putnam County about the homelife of Haleigh Cummings and her younger brother inside their father's house.

Both children live with their father, Ronald Cummings. Cummings was granted custody of the children in 2005.

5-year-old Haleigh disappeared from her father's home February 9th while being watched by Cummings' then-girlfriend, Misty Croslin. Cummings and Croslin have since married.

Picazio said she spent 90 minutes with DCF's attorney, the agency's supervisors in Putnam County, and with DCF caseworkers Tuesday.
Picazio said she does not intend to help Haleigh's mother, Crystal Sheffield, file for custody of the children at this time.

Picazio said she will wait for DCF to finish an investigation before filing any legal action for custody. She said she has faith DCF will swiftly investigate the information she has brought to their attention. Picazio first came to Putnam County last week at the request of individuals helping Sheffield's family. She said she first took on the case to help Sheffield deal with the media. She said she then learned about some allegations about the stability and safety of Haleigh and her brother's home.

Picazio has taken the case pro bono.
If you have any information that could help find Haleigh, call 1-888-277-TIPS. There is a $35,000 reward.
3/18/2009
SATSUMA, FL -- Haleigh Cummings' great-grandmother, Annette Sykes, says the allegations that her grandson abused Haleigh and Haleigh's little brother are "garbage and hearsay."
Sykes told First Coast News Wednesday, "Ronald's a good daddy. I'm not saying he's perfect because he's not. He's a young father, but he loves his children. He provides for his children. He spends as much time as he can with them."

Kim Picazio, Haleigh's mother's attorney, told First Coast News last week that after coming to Putnam County to help Crystal Sheffield handle the media, she received numerous calls and information about possible abuse involving Haleigh's father -- Ronald Cummings, Haleigh and Haleigh's little brother over the past few years.

Picazio said she provided all of that information to the Florida Department of Children and Families Tuesday so that the agency can investigate. "We're not worried about that [investigation]," said Sykes. "It's just a matter of if they want to investigate facts or if they don't want to take the time and go by hear-say."

John Harrell, a spokesman for the Department of Children and Families, confirmed the agency did receive the information from Picazio this week. Harrell said the agency takes the allegations seriously and will review the information carefully.

As for the speculation that Haleigh's mother, Crystal Sheffield, is fighting for custody of her children, Picazio told First Coast News she is still not pursuing a custody battle at this time.
Haleigh's great-grandmother, Sykes, said even talking about it right now is wrong.

"The only thing that needs to be talked about is Haleigh Ann Marie Cummings! Nothing else," Sykes said. "If they want to do all that other stuff, they should've waited until Haleigh came home. Any issues they had should not be now. Now is not the time."

Haleigh's Mom Holds Special Church Service

February 25, 2009

WELAKA, FL -- A few miles south of the family campsite in Satsuma, Haleigh Cumming's mother attended a church service where people prayed for the the girl's safe return.

A few dozen people gathered in the small church, encouraging the family not to give up hope young Haleigh will be found alive.

Haleigh's mom, Crystal Sheffield, told First Coast News' Erich Spivey she will stay in Satsuma for months, if that's how long it takes to find Haleigh.

Ronald Cummings made another plea for Haleigh's safe return Tuesday, but didn't take any questions from reporters.

Geraldo Rivera banned from camp of Haleigh's father

Fox News figure was issued a trespass warning
By Deirdre Conner
Sunday, Feb. 22, 2009

No new information about Haleigh Cummings’ whereabouts materialized on Sunday.

But as the search for the missing Putnam County girl closed out its 13th day, the case took a surreal turn as her family’s conflict became fodder for national television.

It all started Saturday afternoon, when police responded to a disturbance at the trailer park where Haleigh’s mother’s family and father’s family are camped out at opposite ends of the road.

The disturbance began after Geraldo Rivera, anchor of the Fox News Channel’s “Geraldo at Large,” accosted Ronald Cummings, Haleigh’s father, at the camper where he has been living. It ended with a trespass warning for Rivera, and shortly thereafter, the broadcast of his contentious interview. Read the transcript here.
.
Geraldo asked him about allegations that he used illegal drugs, was physically and verbally abusive of Sheffield — most of them detailed in a Thursday story in the Times-Union — which he denied.

Cummings got even more upset when Rivera said he’d been told by members of Haleigh’s mother’s family that Cummings hit the child and has said he is 75 percent sure he knows who has her. Shortly thereafter, family members ran Rivera and his crew off the property.

Putnam County Sheriff’s deputies arrived on the scene later, and issued Rivera the trespass warning at the request of the two property owners on whose land the Cummings family is camping while their trailer remains closed off as a crime scene. A trespass warning means Rivera would be arrested if he came back onto the property. Rivera told deputies he understood and stated he would not come back to the address, but declined to sign the trespass warning, according to a sheriff’s office report.

A Fox News spokeswoman provided partial transcripts of the interviews, but said she was unable to make anyone from the show available for comment on the run-in.

In Rivera’s later interview with Sheffield and her mother, she repeated those allegations, but said she still believes that Cummings loves Haleigh.

On Sunday, neither parent was speaking to the media. Haleigh’s paternal grandmother, Teresa Neves, issued yet another plea for people nationwide to keep an eye out for her granddaughter.
Official police searches of that area have stilled, but detectives from the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office are still tracking down leads, said Capt. Dick Schauland.

This was a low-class interview imo. I've been with Geraldo forever--through the broken nose incident to the empty vault. He's like a lovable but slightly goofy little brother. But here he goaded Ron into getting angry and probably wheedled the abuse allegations out of Crystal. I think he stirred up trouble where there wasn't any.

Haleigh's Father Reportedly Had a Fight Day Before She Disappeared

SATSUMA, FL -- Family members of Ronald Cummings say he got into a fight with another man over a gun one day before his daughter disappeared. (Joseph Miller, Misty's cousin who came to visit from Tennessee who abused her as a smaller child and stole a gun from Ron??)

A relative told First Coast News Cummings accused the other man of stealing a gun. The relative could not remember the name of the man or where the fight happened.

The relative said the man disappeared the next day and the gun was found in a ditch.

No word on the type of gun, but on the night Haleigh disappeared, Cummings told responding deputies he had a 9 mm Beretta handgun and would kill the person who had taken his child.
Authorities would not comment on the claim.

An FBI expert told First Coast News with the investigation at this stage, authorities take a really close look at anything unusual in the hours, days and weeks before a child's disappearance.

Haleigh's Parents Taken to Sheriff's Office http://www.firstcoastnews.com/news/b...31632&catid=17

-- The mother, father and grandmother of Haleigh Cummings were called to the Putnam County Sheriff's Office at approx 2:00p.m today. Marie Griffis, Haleigh's grandmother, told First Coast News that deputies had told her to pick up Crystal Sheffield, Haleigh's mother, and take her to the Sheriff's Office.

Griffis left in a hurry, according to First Coast News Chief Investigative reporter Jackelyn Barnard.Haleigh's father, Ronald Cummings, was taken there by the lead detective in the case. The flurry of activity came hours after a news conference where investigators announced little except the tip about Misty Croslin not being at the house when Haleigh vanished.
Capt. Dick Schauland said the tip is one of 1,200 under investigation.

Marie Griffis says the family is taking the tip with a grain of salt until detectives can say whether it's valid. Croslin put Haleigh to bed at 8 p.m. Croslin said she went to bed at 10 p.m. and when she woke up around 3 a.m. Haleigh vanished. Investigators are pushing for tips in the case since they have no clothing description on Haleigh.

Call Crime Stoppers at 1-888-277-TIPS if you have any information.
