Lawyer for Haleigh’s mom reveals investigation details

Wednesday, 25 Mar 2009,
MATT SAFFER FOX 35 News

SATSUMA, Fla. - - Kim Picazio was already on her way to Satsuma from Miami Wednesday afternoon when she got our phone call. With a few hours left ahead of her on the road, Picazio shared new details about what she says happened the night Haleigh disappeared, and what she’s calling bad living conditions inside Haleigh’s home.

“Just your typical sex drugs and rock and roll life style that is not conducive to raising children,” said Picazio. “Not one of the things I’ve heard about what goes on in the home would I even consider letting my child watch on TV, let alone exposing him to it.”

Picazio says after sifting through documents, seeing pictures and talking with family and friends, she felt compelled to seek state intervention and ask the DCF to investigate the Cummings household.

“I would be committing malpractice if I chose to hold off on bringing those allegations to the proper authorities,” said Picazio. “Conditions of neglect to outright child abuse and to the conditions in the home which would not be conducive to raising any child.”

The Florida Department of Children and Families could not comment on the specifics of the investigation. A spokesman did tell us Picazio met with members of the DCF and presented them with documents alleging abuse and neglect. He also said the Department is reviewing the information she provided very carefully.

“The particular lifestyle that we believe is led by Misty and Ronald Cummings is one that essentially laid out the red carpet to something at some point happening to these children, and something did,” said Picazio.

The lawyer also shared with us new details about what she said happened the night Haleigh was taken. She says Ronald Junior, Haleigh’s brother, woke up when a man came into the house to see Misty Croslin, Ronald Cummings then girlfriend.

“What he stated to his mother was that he saw a black man in black clothing take Haleigh…she asked him, if you were asleep Junior how could you have seen that if you were asleep? And he said well I woke up because the man had squeaky shoes…and the couch was bouncing,” said Picazio.

“A lot of the times we hear things from 8 different people who did not know each other including eyewitnesses. And at this point we have a pretty solid timeline. We think we know what happened in that house up until about 10:30. There’s a wide gap in time from 10:30 till three in the morning and somewhere in that timeframe, Haleigh went missing,” said Picazio.

Ronald Cummings, Haleigh’s father, could not be reached for comment. His Grandmother tells us they have been advised by legal council to not speak with the media. A call to Ronald’s lawyer was not returned.

Drew Peterson "I Didn't Care Then, I Don't Care Now"

Chicago Sun-Times

Thursday, March 12, 2009

Susan Murphy Milano

"Eighteen months," said Drew Peterson, "I didn't care then and I don't care now." (referring to Thomas Morphey and the immunity deal with the State's Attorney moving a body in a blue barrel.)

With a microphone shoved in Drew's direction, news reporters asked questions in the driveway of Stacy Peterson's home. I think her name is still on the title of to the house? Oh wait, I am confusing this with the recently signed car title to live-in bed warmer Christina Raines. Can he do that? Was the title of the car driven and owned by Stacy in Drew Peterson's name? Or did he go ahead and sign Stacy's name anyway to the car title?

You know he's good at signing people's names to documents living or deceased. Take Kathleen's Will as an example. Yes, another media event, as Drew Peterson's legal marshmallow roaster takes the issue of Kathleen's estate all the way to the supreme court.

Send that man a bag of campfire marshmallows. Because that's the only thing that will stick to the bottom of his shoes after he is turned down at the supreme court on Kathleen Savio's Will.

Martin Glink, one of the attorneys representing the Kathleeen Savio’s family, did not consider Brodsky’s appeal to the Supreme Court to be much of a threat to his case. “I would doubt very much the Supreme Court would find this novel enough to hear,” Glink said.

“I don’t think it raises any conflict among the judicial circuits,” he said. “I think what the appellate court did and what Judge Goodman did was correct.”

Come to think of it, the bed in Drew Peterson's home belonged to Kathleen Savio, wife #3. After her death, on the day of Kathleen's funeral Drew had a moving truck and hauled everything inside the home a few blocks away to his new home he bought with his current wife Stacy Peterson. The bed was moved into Stacy and Drew's master bedroom.

But, wait, I keep forgetting the same bed occupied by wives #3 and #4 is now occupied by Christina and Drew. I hope at least Drew shelled out money for a new mattress.

Now the trick is for Drew to declare in a court that Stacy abandoned him. You remember Drew said she's not coming back and he wants to get married. How would he know for certain Stacy is not returning?

Unless, wait a minute. Thomas Morphey is telling the truth! Could it be? Thomas Morphey is not as crazy as Drew and Joel Brodsky would have us all believe, and a body was carried down those stairs.

Judge: No conflict exists between Casey Anthony, lawyer

The public may never know how Casey Anthony is paying for her defense team.

The public may never know how Casey Anthony is paying for her defense team. During a 40-minute hearing this morning, Orange Circuit Court Judge Stan Strickland found there was no conflict of interest involving Anthony's lead defense attorney, Jose Baez.
.
Prosecutor Jeff Ashton argued that Strickland should look into how Anthony, who is awaiting trial on charges that she killed her 2-year-old daughter Caylee Marie Anthony, is paying for her defense...
.
"We are concerned with this case. The objection doesn't state any legal basis," Ashton said. "The way to diffuse this issue right now is . . . to make sure that the record is clear of exactly what the situation is, exactly what the financial arrangements are."
.
Ashton said he was concerned that if Casey Anthony is convicted, she could bring up a conflict -- a dispute between her and her attorney -- that could lead to the case being retried.

Anthony attended the hearing on the 23rd floor of the courthouse, as did her parents, George and Cindy Anthony.
.
Before her arrest in the fall, Anthony had no assets. So prosecutors want to know how she is paying for her defense. Prosecutors assume Baez and other attorney are not working for free.
.
Although Baez's fee structure with Anthony is not public record, Strickland questioned him about his arrangement with his client to make sure there was not a conflict of interest. Among the topics: possible rights for future book and movie deals about Casey Anthony's story.
.
Baez told the judge he has no literary agreement with Casey Anthony. Prosecutor Jeff Ashton wanted Baez to define "story," but Baez objected.
.
Strickland briefly questioned Anthony about the affidavit she signed, which was recently submitted to the court. He confirmed with her that she signed a retainer agreement with Baez and it doesn't entitle him to any rights to her story.
.
Strickland then recessed the hearing to discuss possible conflicts behind closed doors. When the hearing resumed, Strickland said he was "convinced" no conflict exists.
.
Baez then asked Strickland to remind the court that what lawyers and the judge discussed behind closed doors, in front of a court reporter, this morning was private information and needed to stay that way.
.
Prosecutor Jeff Ashton was offended by Baez's comments and said he didn't need to be reminded, but he agreed.Strickland responded by telling the bickering lawyers, "This is getting old."
.
After Strickland's ruling, Baez left the courtroom and spoke with reporters."We are glad this is behind us," Baez said. "I have told everyone all along that defense has not done anything unethical in any way, shape or form. These accusations are just that."
.
George and Cindy Anthony left the courtroom without talking to reporters.

11-Year-Old Boy to Stand Trial in Death of Father's Fiancee

March 24, 2009 (AP)

NEW CASTLE, Pa. — The clothing of an 11-year-old accused of killing his father's pregnant fiancee had gunshot residue on it, a state trooper testified Tuesday at his preliminary hearing, where the boy was held for trial.

Trooper Troy Scott Steinheiser testified the clothing was taken from Jordan Brown the evening of Feb. 20, the day Kenzie Marie Houk, 26, was found dead in the bedroom of the farmhouse in Wampum, where she lived with her two daughters, Brown and his father, Christopher Brown.

Tests revealed the residue, Steinheiser testified.

Another trooper, Sgt. Kenneth Markilinski, testified that he found a 20-gauge shotgun in Brown's upstairs bedroom and it smelled as though it had recently been fired.

Investigators contend that Brown placed the youth-model shotgun — a Christmas gift from his father — to Houk's head as she slept and shot her once, killing her and causing her unborn son to die of a lack of oxygen. The fetus was nearly full-term. Brown is charged with two counts of homicide.

Brown is charged as an adult; District Judge David Rishel ruled Tuesday that Brown should stand trial. Defense lawyers said they plan to file a motion to transfer the case to juvenile court.
At least one other case of a child allegedly killing a family member is making its way through the courts. In Arizona, a 9-year-old boy has pleaded guilty to negligent homicide in the death of his father's co-worker and roommate, 39-year-old Tim Romans.

Romans and the boy's father, Vincent Romero, a 29-year-old employee of a construction company, were shot with a .22-caliber rifle. The murder charge filed in his father's death was dropped as part of the plea deal.

In Pennsylvania, Houk's family has suggested that Brown was envious of Houk, but one of his attorneys has dismissed that claim and said there was no animosity.

Brown was led into the courtroom with his hands cuffed and shackled to a belt on his waist. He appeared to sit calmly throughout the two-hour hearing.

Defense attorneys said they need more evidence to understand what happened. Brown denies shooting Houk, defense attorney Dennis Elisco said. "There's never been an admission," he said.

Christopher Brown attended the hearing but did not speak to reporters.
No trial date has been set.

Drug Testing Bill for Welfare Recipients

KSN.com
Mar 24, 2009

Wichita, Kansas - The house passed random drug testing for welfare recipients getting cash assistance Tuesday.

Representative Kasha Kelley, (R) Arkansas City, authored the bill. "This really gives an opportunity for them (drug users) to change," explained Kelley.

If a welfare recipient would test positive for drugs under the proposed law, that person would have to undergo drug treatment or lose their benefits.

Some opponents fear those kicked off cash assistance would become a burden to other welfare agencies.

If the House passes the measure on a final vote, it would move to the Senate for approval.

ET tracked down on Google Street View

I don't make this stuff up, I swear...

UFO experts were left baffled after claims that ET was finally tracked down on Google Street View.

24 Mar 2009

A misty shape, bearing a distinct similarity to the movie alien, was captured behind a bush next to a mysterious beam of light.

The spooky snap was caught by Google image cameras in the town of Berkeley Heights in New Jersey.

Some claim the image could be evidence of life in outer space while others point to a simple trick of the light.

The 'ET' alien was photographed on Diamond Hill Road, a semi-rural location about eight miles from Morristown Municipal Airport, New Jersey and 30 miles from the bright lights of New York City.

Malcolm Robinson, head of the Strange Phenomena Investigations, described the image as "the first of its kind".

He said: "On close inspection the similarities with ET are obvious but it's hard to say with any certainty what exactly it is.

"Of added interest is the strange beam of light to the right, which I cannot explain either.
"This picture is the first of it's kind, as far as I'm aware, in that its been captured on Google's new Street View technology.

"However, because it was captured by Google it would appear that there aren't any witnesses to back up what was photographed, which is frustrating. "Without further details to go on I'm really stumped. We'd all love it to be alien, but that's a big assumption."

Nick Sawyer, one of many web-users to have spotted the alien-like creature, added: "Whatever it is, you cannot deny that it looks exactly like ET.

"The head is an oblong shape and it seems to have the same long neck and fat body. "There is also a beam of light right next to him, who knows, that might be an unseen spaceship trying to make contact.

"In all seriousness, however, I'm mystified at what it is. The area is not far from an airport and UFOs have been reported to take an interest in our own aviation technology.

"New York City is only an hour's drive as well so you never know, he might be eyeing up a trip to the Big Apple."

Technical experts are also in a muddle over what the image could be, although one told an online chatroom: "When the light shines directly at and between two of the lenses, the software compiling the images together may end up putting up a slicing white laser. "But I cannot be sure one hundred per cent."

Three months ago, police in nearby Morris County, New Jersey, were alerted to a series of unidentified flying objects hovering over the area.

Dozens of residents watched on in awe as five flickering red lights moved gently across the night's sky.

Local resident Paul Hurley, a pilot who works at Morristown Airport, said: "I've been in the aviation industry about 20 years, so I knew they weren't airplanes".
